Peach State Health Plan presented a check for $50,000 to The Children’s Hospital at Memorial University Medical Center Friday to help establish a childhood obesity and disease management center for Medicaid patients at the hospital.
The center, the first of its kind in southeast Georgia, will provide Medicaid patients additional care coordination and case management to help them manage their diseases and weight issues.
In addition to a physician leader trained in pediatric disease management, the center’s staff will include a developmental coordinator who will be focused on programs, outreach and healthy lifestyle development for underserved children.
“We are very thankful for this generous contribution from Peach State,” said Bill Lee, vice president of The Children’s Hospital. “Our initial focus will be on early intervention, healthy lifestyle coaching and community outreach, which will have direct impact on the health of children in our region.”
