Cows are the food source most often lobbying for Chick-fil-A.
Count their aquatic cousins — fish and shrimp — among those urging diners to “Eat more chikin,” at least on Savannah’s eastside.
Construction crews are scheduled to demolish the former Captain D’s restaurant at the corner of Victory Drive and Skidaway Road in the near future to make way for a Chick-fil-A.
The fast-food chicken eatery is expected to open in late spring, according to Beth Vantosh, a commercial Realtor with Keller Williams Commercial who brokered the deal.
Chick-fil-A signed a 15-year lease with an option for 15 more years earlier this year. Captain D’s closed in October.
The new Chick-fil-A is part of a larger makeover for the Victory Drive Shopping Center, which has been owned by the Remler family for close to a century and was one of the first shopping centers in Savannah with its own parking lot.
A cheerleading school is set to open in the center in December, and the space currently occupied by the Dollar Buster Plus is set to come available next year.
A building on one of the center’s outparcels, currently home to Rite Aid, will soon be vacant as well. Rite Aid is closing Dec. 15.
Vantosh is in negotiations with other potential high-profile tenants for the Dollar Buster Plus and Rite Aid spots.
“The Chick-fil-A underscores that this is a high-traffic area,” Vantosh said. “You have Target and Home Depot right here, a Whole Foods opening up down the street and a Starbucks across the way. This is a good place for national retail.”
The Victory Drive Chick-fil-A will be the Atlanta company’s sixth Savannah-area location and the fourth free-standing store. It will be corporate owned.
