Factory activity grows in Georgia

ATLANTA — Factory activity in the Peach State grew in March, outpacing improvements in the doings of counterparts across the rest of the nation, according to the state’s Purchasing Managers Index.

Kennesaw State University’s Econometric Center compiled the index and released it Tuesday showing a 5.8 point rise to 62.5 while the national index only rose 0.5 points to 53.7. A reading above 50 predicts overall economic expansion.

“It’s apparent this upswing was weather related, but what is not clear is how much of this catch-up is sustainable at this level,” said Don Sabbarese, director of the Econometric Center.

The center calculates the index based on monthly surveys of the executives who buy supplies for their manufacturing plants in various industries across the state.

New go-cart track to feature 28 carts

STATESBORO — The Clubhouse has broken ground on what it calls a new eco-friendly Go Cart track, the Coca-Cola 125 Raceway, with construction by Lavender and Associates, Inc., already underway.

The raceway is expected to be open for business in early summer.

The track will feature 28 electric go-carts with on-board audio systems with accelerator-sensitive stock car engine sounds, driver controlled turbo boost, wirelessly controlled messages that instruct racers on track rules and driving technique, and a pit sound system that hypes the race for spectators.

The new track will add 20 Clubhouse employees.
