
The Savannah Downtown Redevelopment Authority awarded its Golden Broom award for the first quarter of 2014 to the Savannah College of Art and Design during a ceremony Thursday at 3116 Montgomery St.
The award was presented by representatives from the SRDA; sanitation outreach and education coordinator, city of Savannah; and the Savannah Morning News. Officials said SCAD was chosen because of its ongoing contribution to beautifying Savannah’s greater downtown community.
The Golden Broom Award is given to recognize a business in greater downtown that keeps the area in front of their business clean and litter-free.
Businesses nominated for the award must be located between River Street and Park Avenue, and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard to East Broad Street. Business may also be located on the Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Montgomery Street corridor from River Street to 52nd Street.
Criteria include:
• Overall business appearance; a well kept tree lawn, walkway or storefront;
• A consistently clean and litter-free establishment;
• Signage quality;
• Graffiti free;
• Landscaping and flowers.
