Hyatt to display 9/11 memorial flag
The Hyatt Regency Savannah will display the 9/11 memorial flag in the hotel lobby from 1 p.m. on Aug. 31 through noon on Sept. 7 during the 2012 Supreme Emblem Club US Annual Convention.
The flag is 22 feet by 32 feet and is made up of more than 2,983 miniature 4-inch by 6-inch American flags representing each victim from the World Trade Center, Pentagon and Flight 93 tragedies of 2001.
The project also contains flags representing service organizations that participated in the recovery and rescue efforts and the nations they represented.
The flag was presented to New York City at a ceremony on the USS Intrepid on March 11, 2002. Its final resting place will be the 9/11 Memorial Museum scheduled for display in 2013.
Spine & Sport to hold second ‘wounded warrior’ outing
The Second Annual Warrior Golf Classic, sponsored by Spine & Sport’s for the Wounded Warrior Project, will be held at the Westin’s Club at Savannah Harbor on Sept. 14.
The event was held in Hinesville in 2011, but teams had to be turned away because of the size of the course.
This year, several teams of local wounded warriors are scheduled to play, all of them sponsored and paid for by local business, including Paula Deen, Oliver Maner, LLP, and State Farm.
One of this year’s honorary co-chairs is J.D. Greer, a wounded-warrior mentor who was medevaced out of a war zone after losing his right arm to an explosive device in the line of duty. The other honorary co-chair is Doug Giorgio.
The tournament’s goal is to raise $10,000 for the Wounded Warrior Project. The cost is $600 for corporate teams, $500 for four-player teams, $500 to sponsor a team of wounded warriors and $100 for a hole sponsorship.
