New art supply store opens on Broughton

Blick Art Materials, a national chain of art supply stores, has opened its 38th retail location at 318 E. Broughton St.

The new store stocks more than 20,000 art supplies along with an assortment of specialty stationery, notebooks and gift products, as well as custom-framing and fine-art printing services.

Earlier, Blick bought Primary Art Supply, which occupied a smaller store three blocks west on Broughton Street. Primary’s former owners, Amy Spurlock and Robyn Reeder, will help Blick with local sales and marketing while their staff makes the move to new positions with Blick Art Materials.

“We’ve added new jobs to Savannah, while retaining Primary’s ownership and staff,” said Ed Ogorzaly, president of retail at Blick Art Materials.

Blick is scheduled to host a 15-day grand opening event Sept. 13–27.

Savannah makes “best fall getaways” list

U.S. News and World Report magazine recently included Savannah among its “12 Best Fall Getaways,” ranking ninth among a collection of national and international destinations.

According to the magazine, “Beautiful architecture, amazing comfort food and a distinct sense of Southern hospitality are Savannah’s major draws. But you can enjoy the fall-time jazz and film festivals if you plan a trip for this season. You’ll also find a few vacancies in the city’s romantic bed and breakfasts and historical inns.”

The list included many popular summer destinations, with the magazine editors noting that fall is a good time to visit because “prices, crowds and temperatures have dropped.”

Paris topped the list. San Francisco was the top U.S. destination.

Dr. Anthony Davis, who developed Twin City, has left to pursue other medical interests. Nurse Practitioner Lauren Shaw, who has practiced at Memorial Medical Center in Savannah, has taken over as the primary medical provider.
