Georgia Southern University President Brooks Keel and Armstrong Atlantic State University President Linda Bleicken signed an agreement Wednesday to allow qualified students to complete an associate of science degree with a concentration in engineering from Armstrong and transfer to Georgia Southern to earn a bachelor’s degree in civil, electrical or mechanical engineering.

Keel said the arrangement was “all about opportunity.”

“This enables more students to have access to top-notch engineering education in the state of Georgia,” he said.

Bleicken said she was pleased to bring Armstrong’s and Georgia Southern’s engineering programs together and allow students to take advantage “of the talented faculty at both institutions.”

During the ceremony, representatives from both universities emphasized that the agreement will help generate an increased supply of qualified engineering graduates and allow Georgia companies to attract, hire and retain work-ready engineers without having to recruit out-of-state.

Guests from Savannah Technical College; Gulfstream Aerospace; Mitsubishi Power Systems America Inc.; Hussey, Gay, Bell and DeYoung; Thomas & Hutton and other regional business leaders were on hand for the signing ceremony in the Armstrong Student Union.
