City business experts to offer free advice
Business and development officials from the city of Savannah will be on hand to offer advice and guidance during this week’s Free Advice Friday hosted by The Creative Coast.
City of Savannah Business Development Coordinator Rob Davis and City Development Services Liaison Cristy Lawrence will answer questions about how to start a business and get a permit.
Lawrence helps engineers, developers, builders and small businesses navigate the building and site plan permitting processes.
Davis helps small businesses by providing technical assistance during the startup phase and helping mature businesses with their retention and expansion efforts.
The event will take place from noon to 2 p.m. Friday at the Creative Coast office, 15 W. York St., just off Wright Square. The event is free, and drop-ins are welcome.
General Dynamics board declares dividend
The board of directors of General Dynamics (NYSE: GD) Wednesday declared a regular quarterly dividend of 51 cents per share on the company’s common stock, payable Nov. 9, to shareholders of record at the close of business Oct. 5.
General Dynamics, parent company of Savannah-based Gulfstream Aerospace, employs approximately 93,500 people worldwide. The company is a market leader in business aviation; land and expeditionary combat systems, armaments and munitions; shipbuilding and marine systems; and information systems and technologies.
Gulfstream — one of four General Dynamics business units — designs, develops, manufactures and services business-jet aircraft, including the flagship of the fleet, the ultra-large-cabin, ultra-long-range G650, currently in development.
Gulfstream employs more than 6,000 in Savannah.

New videos promote Tybee Island
The Tybee Island Tourism Council has released two videos featuring island ecotourism and accommodations.
The promotional videos were created by Karl Strauch of Coastal Marketing Group and produced in collaboration with Sherrie Breen of Modish. The new footage complements a video celebrating the beauty, history, charm and spirit of Tybee Island that debuted in August 2011.
The new ecotourism video features footage of nature-oriented activities such as paddle boarding, dolphin watching and kayaking, as well as interviews with Maria Procopio of the Tybee Island Marine Science center and Capt. Stan Allen of Marshland Inshore Fishing Adventures.
The accommodations video explores lodging options on Tybee, from beach cottages and condominiums to hotels and B&B’s. Tim O’Neill of Tim’s Beach Gear discusses what makes Tybee such a memorable place to visit.
