Parker’s opens store in Rincon

Parker’s has opened a new convenience store in Rincon on the site of the former Springfield Ford deaelership on Hwy. 21.

The store, Parker’s 30th, offers discounted gasoline, as well as 4,500 square feet of retail space. Parker’s other Effingham County locations are in Guyton and Springfield.

“We’ve received repeated requests from Effingham County customers asking us to open a Parker’s in Rincon,” said Greg Parker, president and CEO of Parker’s. “We listened to our customer base and appreciate their support.”

Like all other Parker’s retail locations, the Rincon store offers PumpPal members a 10-cent discount per gallon of gasoline purchased through Dec. 31. The PumpPal program has more than 59,000 members throughout Georgia and South Carolina.

Parker’s was recently ranked on Inc.’s elite list of the top 5000 fastest-growing private companies in the U.S. and was selected as the Savannah Morning News Entrepreneur of the Year.

Sunrise Rotary reports successful fundraiser

The Savannah Sunrise Rotary Club has successfully completed its major fundraising event for 2012.

The Trick or Trot 5k, 10k held on Wilmington Island raised $8,700. The profits will be shared by the Midtown Community Center, West Broad Street YMCA and Safe Shelter.

The club also uses the proceeds for the Georgia Rotary Student Program, which provides scholarships for about 80 international students who study in Georgia colleges and universities for a year.

Tourism council changes luncheon date

The Leadership Tourism Council is moving its January membership luncheon to Wednesday, Jan. 16, so it will be able to attend the 2013 Savannah Economic Outlook presentation sponsored by the Savannah Area Chamber of Commerce on Jan. 17.

Mayor Pro-tem Van Johnson II will talk about how the city of Savannah works with people in the tourism industry.

The luncheon will run from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the ANdAZ Hotel, 14 Barnard St.

The council also is looking for nominations for employees who make their businesses “shine a little brighter.”

AT&T donates to Bethesda Academy

Bethesda Academy, a school for boys in grades six through twelve, has received a $3,300 donation from AT&T to support ongoing programs for students.

Gary Sanchez, director of external affairs with AT&T, presented the check to Bethesda Academy president David Tribble on the Bethesda campus on Dec. 13.

“We’re delighted to support Bethesda Academy,” Sanchez said.. “This school is changing lives and making a positive impact in our community.”
