Average local gas price barely more than $2
Average retail gasoline prices in Savannah have risen 0.8 cents a gallon in the past week to $2.02 a gallon on Sunday, according to GasBuddy’s daily survey of 262 gas outlets in Savannah.
The national average has increased 2.7 cents a gallon in the last week to $2.05, according to gasoline price website GasBuddy.com.
Prices Sunday in the Savannah area were $1.22 a gallon lower than the same day one year ago and were 14.4 cents a gallon lower than a month ago. The national average has decreased 15.7 cents a gallon during the last month and stands $1.227 cents a gallon lower than a year ago.
“Since Jan. 7 through Friday wholesale prices on average are up 20 cents a gallon, so there’s no doubt now that the first-quarter climb is underway and is already being reflected in rising prices at the pump,” said Gregg Laskoski, senior petroleum analyst with GasBuddy.

Beaufort County schools receive Parker’s grant
Parker’s convenience stores have presented a $10,000 Fueling the Community check to the Beaufort County (S.C.) School District as part of a larger unrestricted charitable contribution to area schools.
“We’re deeply committed to giving back to every community where Parker’s does business,” said Greg Parker, president and CEO of Parker’s. “I truly believe education is the rising tide that lifts all boats. Education helps make Beaufort County a stronger community, reduces crime and increases opportunity for young people.”
Parker’s donates one cent of every gallon of gas purchased at all of its convenience stores on the first Wednesday of the month to area schools through the Fueling the Community program.
