Georgia Southern’s small business center to relocate

The Georgia Southern University Small Business Development Center, currently located in the Market District on Fair Road, will relocate to 58 E. Main St. on the City Campus in downtown Statesboro.

Beginning Jan. 1, the small business center will operate from City Campus as part of the Business Innovation Group.

BIG will include the Center for Entrepreneurial Learning and Leadership, which includes GENIE, a virtual incubator linking small businesses in rural Georgia to resources at Georgia Southern; the Innovation Incubator and Fabrication Laboratory; the Bureau of Business Research and Economic Development and the SBDC.

All of them are part of the Georgia Southern University College of Business Administration. The SBDC serves for-profit businesses in a 13-county area surrounding Statesboro.

Vantosh Realty Group forms in Savannah, Atlanta

Real estate broker Beth Vantosh has launched Vantosh Realty Group, a boutique commercial real estate agency with offices in Savannah and Atlanta. The company specializes in buying, selling and leasing shopping centers, office buildings and new facilities for office, retail and industrial tenants.

“We are commercial real estate consultants who will help our clients find what they are looking for from every angle, ensuring they are in line with their business goals,” Vantosh said.

The satellite office in Atlanta is headed by veteran broker Jeff Vantosh, who has been active in the commercial real estate industry in both Atlanta and Savannah for more than 40 years.

Meldrim sawmill sold to Canadian firm

Canadian-based Interfor Corp. has announced that it has reached agreement with Simpson Lumber Company to buy Simpson’s sawmill operations in Meldrim, as well as those in Georgetown, S.C., Longview and Commencement Bay, Wash.

The Sawmill Operations have a combined annual lumber capacity of 750 million board feet and are expected to produce 555 million board feet in 2014. As a result of this transaction, Interfor’s total capacity will increase by 30 percent to 3.1 billion board feet.

For the nine months that ended Sept. 30, the Meldrim, Georgetown and Longview sawmills generated earnings before taxes of $16 million.

Interfor said it paid $94.7 million plus working capital for the sawmills.
