A Savannah-based e-commerce platform reported Tuesday that a new review of small and medium-sized online merchants shows a healthy start to the holiday shopping season for even the smallest of merchants.

Average per-store orders on Cyber Monday are up 24 percent from last year, and average per-store revenue is up 30 percent, according to CommerceV3, which analyzed data from more than 50,000 orders across more than 250 small and mid-sized online retail storefronts from 2011 and 2012.

The sample size constituted more than $4.7 million worth of transactions across a wide variety of retail segments.

“Last year was the first that Cyber Monday actually surpassed all other days of the year in terms of revenue for small merchants,” said Nathan Focht, president of CommerceV3 (CV3). “But this year it’s grown even more, and we processed about 20 percent more orders than we expected platform-wide.”

Blake Ellis, a founding partner of CommerceV3, said the numbers are encouraging for the health of the small retailer and for the nation.

“We knew Amazon and Wal-Mart would sell lots of stuff,” Ellis said, “but it’s good to see this kind of continued strength in small and mid-sized retailers, as well. And many of them are posting these numbers without resorting to the deep discounts large retailers are so keen on.”
