Business lecture on branding set for next week

SCORE’s October business lecture titled ”Your Brand is Your Company’s Most Valuable Asset” will be in the SCORE conference room, 111 E. Liberty St, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 22, 2014.

Jimi Gibson, creative director and CEO of his own marketing firm, will be the speaker. He has more than 25 years of advertising, marketing and branding experience.

. His client list has included Alcoa, Anheuser-Busch, CSX, Phillip Morris USA, Reynolds Metals, Time-Life, University of Virginia and Zeiss Optical. He has won over fifteen national awards for campaigns including best in category and more broadly, most effective campaign.

He focuses on helping entrepreneurs leverage their unique business elements to design plans to turn the personality of the enterprise into healthy profits.

The lecture is free, but attendees should bring a lunch.

Lunch and learn to focus on social media

A lunch and learn sponsored by the Pooler Chamber of Commerce and Visitors

Bureau will address “what you really need to know about social media and SEO for your organization.”

The session will feature area social media and SEO experts and will be held Tuesday, Oct. 21, at 11:30 a.m. at the conference center at New Birth Church, 122 Pipemakers Circle in Pooler.

Cost is $20 for chamber members and $25 for non-members who haven’t pre-registered.

‘Slavery and Freedom in Savannah’ earns multiple awards

‘Slavery and Freedom in Savannah,’ a multi-year project encompassing a major publication, a museum exhibition, a three-day city symposium and multiple community partnerships has earned national, regional and state recognition.

Organized by Telfair Museums, the project offers insights into urban life across 300 years of Georgia history with a variety of perspectives on slavery, emancipation and black life in Savannah from the city’s founding to the early 20th century.

The awards are:

• American Association for State and Local History gave the project its Leadership and History Award for achievement in the preservation and interpretation of state and local history.

• The Southeastern Museums Conference recognized the exhibit in its annual competition, which focuses on the interchange of ideas, information, and cooperation.

• The Georgia Historical Records Advisory Council presented its Award for Excellence in Documenting Georgia’s History to the book.
