Representatives of The One Hundred gathered at the Children’s Hospital at Memorial University Medical Center on Wednesday morning to get a first-hand look at some of the 25 feeding pumps for critically ill newborns that were bought as part of the special focus of the group’s 2013 fundraiser.
They also presented a symbolic check representing the $264,172 in total donations for the year 2013.
The group’s donations have funded a variety of equipment purchases, including a neonatal stabilization unit, a child-life playroom, a new neonatal transport unit and financing for renovations in the children’s outpatient clinic and pediatric step-down unit.
The One Hundred is made up of volunteers who promote the health of children through advocacy, education and financial support of The Children’s Hospital.
The group’s annual fundraiser, called the Bear Gala, will be held Oct. 24 at the Plantation Club at the Landings on Skidaway Island.
“Each year, we identify an urgent need for the audience to participate in to raise additional monies the night of the Bear Gala as part of The One Hundred’s donation to The Children’s Hospital. Last year, we bought 25 feeding pumps for critically ill newborns,” said Carolyn Brown, president of The One Hundred. “Over the 19 years that we’ve hosted the Bear Gala, we’ve raised more than $3 million for The Children’s Hospital.”
