The iconic Gingerbread House, 1917 Bull St., is changing hands, but the new owners say it will remain available for weddings and special events.
SJ Management Group LLC., whose owners include Savannah resident Jacob Thompson, bought the structure, which is considered a centerpiece of the Thomas Square Streetcar Historic District, for $837,500.
“The Gingerbread House is one of the buildings that always comes to mind when people think of Savannah,” said listing agent Franklin Williams, a Savannah native and past board member of the Historic Savannah Foundation. “It’s a very special part of Savannah, definitely one of its architectural gems.”
The former owners, Herb and Jan Galloway, are retiring out of town. Herb Galloway bought the home in 1978.
Built in 1899 by Cord Asendorf, The Gingerbread House is considered one of the finest examples of Steamboat Gothic architecture in the country.
Inside, there’s a conservatory, three fireplaces, a wooden staircase and extensive wood trim. The house is also filled with antique furnishings from the original period and has a private courtyard with a gazebo and small waterfall.
