French restaurant to open downtown this fall
A Charleston, S.C., company, Holy City Hospitality, has begun work on a new French brasserie and bar at 605 W. Oglethorpe Ave, in the recently opened Embassy Suites Savannah.
The restaurant, 39 Rue de Jean, is the second of its name and is a sister to what the firm calls its flagship location on King Street in Charleston.
“Savannah is rich with vibrant life and history, and we are excited to be coming to town early this fall,” said Holy City Hospitality operator Daren Wolfe.
Holy City’s other ventures include Charleston’s 39 Rue de Jean, Virginia’s on King, Coast Bar and Grill, Vincent Chicco’s, Victor Social Club, Michael’s on the Alley, The Islander and Good Food Catering.
Sip & Savor event scheduled for June 19.
Sip & Savor, a new wine event presented by the Pooler Chamber of Commerce and Visitors Bureau, Inc. will be held Thursday, June 19, from 5 to 7:30 p.m. at Crosswinds Golf Club, 232 James B. Blackburn Drive near I-95 exit 104.
Guests will enjoy a variety of wines and delicious appetizers.
Tickets are $20 apiece if purchased by June 16 or $25 after that date.

Grant will help people in hospice keep pets
The New York-based Amie’s Place Foundation, which works to keep people from being separated from their pets because no one’s there to help them, hasawarded a one-year grant of $2,000 to Hospice Savannah, Inc.’s Pet Peace of Mind program.
The grant will help pay program expenses that aren’t covered by current donations.
The three-year-old program tries to help keep terminally ill people and their pets together during the end of life and to help, when needed, to find homes for pets after patients’ death.

Fashion show to benefit Rape Crisis Center
Villa Savannah, a downtown Savannah clothing and accessory store, will present Summer Showcase, a fashion show for “VIP Locals” only, to benefit the Rape Crisis Center.
The show will be presented Thursday, June 12, from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at Villa of Savannah, 109 W. Broughton St. Admission is free.
The show will feature the latest fashions in clothes, shoes and accessories. Food and beverage will be provided by Joe’s Homemade.
The Rape Crisis Center is a local non-profit program that works to provide resources, advocacy, prevention activity and education to victims of sexual assault and their families.
