HunterMaclean ranked ‘first tier’

HunterMaclean, a business law firm with offices in Savannah and Brunswick, has announced that the firm has received nine first-tier rankings in the 2013 edition of U.S. News-Best Lawyers “Best Law Firms.”

“We’re deeply honored that our firm is held in such high esteem by our peers and clientele,” said Frank S. Macgill, HunterMaclean’s managing partner.

HunterMaclean received first-tier rankings in the following practice areas: Admiralty and Maritime law; employee benefits (ERISA) law; insurance law; litigation–construction; litigation — eminent domain and condemnation; litigation — real estate; product liability litigation — defendants; real estate law; and trusts and estates law.

The national first-tier rankings will be featured in U.S. News & World Report’s Money issue on newsstands on Nov. 20. The rankings are posted online at bestlawfirms.usnews.com.

Firms receiving a first-tier “Best Law Firms” ranking are based on a combination of client feedback, information provided on the Law Firm Survey and Best Lawyers peer review.

CASA receives grant from funeral home

Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors has presented a grant for $500 to Savannah/Chatham Court-Appointed Special Advocates from the York Children’s Foundation, a national organization with the sole purpose of awarding grants to nonprofits dedicated to supporting children.

Each time a family buys a casket at Fox & Weeks, part of the cost is donated to the York Children’s Foundation in the name of the deceased. The foundation, established in 1992, has contributed more than $2.2 million to mostly community-based children’s charities.

“As a family-owned business, we are tightly tied to the families we serve and we’re grateful for any chance we have to give back to the community,” said Fox & Weeks Vice President Scott Weeks.

Parker’s convenience store chain recently presented a check for $2,000 to Bryan County public schools as part of the company’s Fueling the Community program. The donation is part of a larger $20,000 charitable contribution to area schools in Georgia and South Carolina.

“I believe education serves as a key factor in future success,” said Greg Parker, president and CEO of Parker’s.
