City to hold permit review workshops

The city of Savannah will hold two free workshops Nov. 6-7 to provide an overview of the city’s new online plan and permit review system, called eTRAC.

• Session I: Site Development Permits. It will be held Nov. 6 from 1:30-3 p.m. in the Civic Center, Bryan Room for engineers and developers.

• Session II: Building and Trades Permits. It will be held Nov. 7 from 9:30-11:30 a.m. in the Civiv Center, Bryan Room for architects, contractors and builders.

Attendees should bring laptops to complete registration on-site. Seating is limited and registration is required. Contact Cristy Lawrence at 912-644-7784 or clawrence@savannahga.gov.

Publix reports third-quarter results

LAKELAND, Fla. — Publix stores reported Friday that sales for the third quarter of 2012 were $6.7 billion, a 4.4 percent increase from last year’s $6.4 billion. Comparable-store sales for the third quarter increased 2.5 percent.

Net earnings for the quarter were $368.4 million, compared to $311.9 million in 2011, an increase of 18.1 percent.

Publix’s sales for the first nine months of 2012 were $20.5 billion, a 3.9 percent increase from last year’s $19.7 billion. Net earnings for the first nine months of 2012 were $1.2 billion, compared to $1.1 billion in 2011, an increase of 6.1 percent.

Effective Nov. 1, Publix’s stock price increased from $22.00 per share to $22.50 per share. Publix stock is made available only to Publix employees and members of its board of directors.

Publix has 1,065 stores in Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, Alabama and Tennessee.

Construction firm sponsors recycling event

Marchese Construction will sponsor a donation and recycling event with Goodwill Industries of the Coastal Empire on Nov. 16.

The event will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 45 Columbia Drive, Westside Business Park, in Pooler across the street from Spanky’s on Hwy. 80.

Unusable computer and electronic equipment are included, including monitors, printers, keyboards, scanners, copiers, television sets, cellphones, CD and DVD players, along with toner and ink cartridges.

Goodwill will provide donors with a tax receipt.

Cost of living index announced for S.C. towns

BEAUFORT, S.C. — The Beaufort/Port Royal/Bluffton cost of living index for the third quarter of 2012 was 100.1, just slightly above the national average of 100, the Beaufort Regional Chamber of Commerce announced this week.

Individual sections of the survey indexed grocery items at 105.2, housing at 89.5, utilities at 114.0, transportation at 101.2, health care at 91.9 and miscellaneous goods and services at 103.7. Each individual section also holds a national average of 100.

The Beaufort Regional Chamber of Commerce collects data locally for this index.
