Home prices in Savannah increase
According to CoreLogic, a property financial information firm, Savannah home prices, including distressed sales, increased by 3.8 percent in January 2014 compared to January 2013.
On a month-over-month basis, home prices, including distressed sales, increased by 1.6 percent in January 2014 compared to December 2013.
Excluding distressed sales, year-over-year prices increased by 5.1 percent in January 2014 compared to January 2013. On a month-over-month basis, excluding distressed sales, the CoreLogic HPI indicates home prices increased by 2.1 percent in January 2014 compared to December 2013.
Nationally, home price, including distressed sales, increased 12 percent in January 2014 compared to January 2013. This change represents 23 months of consecutive year-over-year increases in home prices nationally.
Sporting goods store opens in Pooler
Sporting goods retailer Hibbett Sports has opened a store at 254 Pooler Parkway in the Village on Pooler Parkway with about eight full and part-time employees.
“This convenient new location is a win-win for our company and the Pooler community. We are very excited to serve the customers in this area,” said Jeff Rosenthal, president and CEO of Hibbett Sporting Goods.
With the addition of the Pooler location, the company has 94 stores in Georgia, including in Rincon and Hinesville.
Nationwide, Hibett operates more than 900 stores.
Georgia Southern to host forensic accounting lecture
STATESBORO — The Georgia Southern University Center for Forensic Studies in Accounting and Business will host its 11th annual forensic accounting lecture series from 5-6:30 p.m. March 11 at the Performing Arts Center on the Georgia Southern campus.
Jason Moran, special agent in charge for the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp., Office of Inspector General, will be the speaker.
The event is designed for anyone interested in pursuing a career in fraud examination and forensic accounting.

Session offered to prepare for master’s degree test
Georgia Southern University MBA will host a free GMAT prep session from 5:30-6:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 11, at the Coastal Georgia Center, 305 Fahm St., featuring Akil Bello, vice president of educational development at Bell Curves.
The session is designed for students interested in getting a Master of Business Administration degree to help them better understand the graduate management admission test. Bello will present tips on how to prepare for the computer-adaptive test and will offer test-taking strategies.
