Their creations include postcards for SCAD’s Sidewalk Arts Festival, a wall display wrap promoting the future Toby Keith’s ‘I Love This Bar and Grill’ at Savannah Mall and banners, signs and programs for NASCAR legend Richard Petty’s 75th birthday party.
But those eye-catching projects just scratch the surface of the overall output by the folks at DXM Marketing Group of Savannah. In fact, the company completes about 600 jobs per month for 200 clients, DXM President Ray Owens said.
The firm’s services include direct mail, mailing list acquisition, data analytics, geographic information services, web portal building and high quality print production for clients across the Southeast.
Those clients include Gulfstream Aerospace, FlightSafety International, Lennar, Zaxby’s, Firehouse Subs, Verizon, Bank of America, Bi-Lo, First Citizens Bank of South Carolina and numerous hospitals and clinics.
“Our direct mail program is very strong,” Owens said. “Advertising for us is still real strong, and we’re doing a lot in the way of email and Web display, one of our fastest-growing areas.”
DXM has a production facility at 2000 Business Center Drive – off Chatham Parkway – and a creative services office at 223 MLK Blvd. in Savannah, a production facility in Jacksonville and a sales office in Greenville, S.C.
The firm employs 50 people in Savannah: nine at the creative services office and 41 at the 17,000-square-foot production facility.
Owens said the company’s 150-bin mail sorting system at the Savannah facility provides a 20 to 25 percent reduction in postal costs for DXM’s customers.
The company was established in 2001 as DX Marketing by Owens, David Matchett, who serves as its chief operating officer, and John Brophy, who serves as its sales director. They sold it in 2006, then repurchased it in 2010 and incorporated the following year under its existing name.
DXM’s roots extend back to Southern Marketing Services, which Owens started in 1992 on Hilton Head Island. He grew it into Document Express, or DocXpress, in Savannah, where Brophy and DXM production manager Dencho Vassilev were employed, according to company information.
Owens, Matchett, Brophy and Vassilev form the ownership group of DXM. Owens oversees the firm’s market research, database management, mapping and targeted marketing services, and Matchett is in charge of the company’s administrative and financial management.
Brophy manages the sales team, and Vassilev oversees the production processes in Savannah and Jacksonville.
The firm’s growth includes two major acquisitions in 2013. Last February, DXM bought the Savannah company called Image is Everything, now known as Image, at 223 MLK Blvd. With this addition, DXM expanded its wide format, artist print and retail capabilities.
In late November, DXM acquired Bethesda, Md.-based Spatial Insights. It provides project consulting and mapping services, mapping software, training and customized geographic and demographic data products and systems for business applications.
In addition, DXM recently purchased the franchise rights to publish “The Scout Guide” for the Beaufort, Bluffton and Hilton Head Island market next spring. These communities will represent the 47th U.S. market for the Charlottesville, Va.-based Scout Guide, which promotes top local businesses.
Owens’ sister-in-law, Cindy Owens, is the lead editor for the Lowcountry version of the annual guide.
“DXM has a heavy duty creative side across its employees, so we’re able to tap into all of that talent” for the guide, she said.
