Health care professionals to offer screenings

Skidaway Island United Methodist Church will hold a health and wellness fair Wednesday, Jan. 29, in Bailey Hall at 54 Diamond Causeway.

The event is free and open to the public from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. It will feature local physician groups and health care educators who will offer a variety of screening and educational resources.

Dr. Corrine Howington, of Low Country Dermatology, will offer skin cancer checks; Dr. Lee Yates, from Savannah Surgery Center, will perform non-invasive screening for peripheral vascular disease; and Leigh Ann Burke, a board certified hearing instrument specialist with Savannah Speech and Hearing, will conduct hearing screenings.

Blood pressure checks will be offered, and the Alzheimer’s Association of Georgia will provide education materials.

Tickets on sale for “Tunes for 200”

The law firm of Bowen Painter & Gorman-Trial Lawyers will present “Tunes for 200” on Jan. 31 featuring a concert by Junkyard Angel to benefit The 200 Club of the Coastal Empire.

The event will be held at 7 p.m. at the Charles H. Morris Center,10 E. Broad St. Tickets are $20 in advance at www.bpg-law.com or $25 at the door.

The 200 Club provides immediate financial assistance to the surviving spouse and children of local law enforcement officers and firefighters who have lost their lives in the line of duty.

Women in construction to meet

The Coastal Georgia Chapter of the National Association of Women in Construction will hold their monthly meeting on Monday, Jan. 27, at the Exchange Tavern on Waters Avenue.

Networking will begin at 5:30 p.m; the meeting will run from 6 p.m. to 7:15 p.m. Heather Radkte, vice president of Speros, will discuss the link between office technology, smartphones and social media and why you should care.

The cost is $20 for members, $30 for non-members.
