Savannah to host supermarket of veterans’ benefits

The Georgia Department of Veterans Service and other federal, state and local agencies will conduct a free “one-stop shop” for veterans benefits from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday at the Georgia National Guard Armory, 1248 Eisenhower Drive.

“There may be many veterans and dependants who are eligible for various benefits but who, for some reason, have never applied for them,” said Pete Wheeler, commissioner of the state agency.

The event will include a health fair provided by medical personnel from the Veterans Health Administration. Free medical screenings and seasonal flu shots will be available.

SCAD interior design programs top rated

In its 2014 report of “America’s Best Architecture & Design Schools,” DesignIntelligence has, for the third year in a row, rated undergraduate and graduate interior design programs at the Savannah College of Art and Design as the best in the nation.

“I am ecstatic that design professionals and educators from across the country have once again recognized SCAD’s excellence in interior design education and career elevation,” said Paula S. Wallace, SCAD president and co-founder. “Congratulations to our star interior design alumni, faculty and students.”

DesignIntelligence does the rankings on behalf of the Design Futures Council. The research ranks undergraduate and graduate programs from the perspective of leading practitioners and educators.

“Our students collaborate with industry partners throughout their time at SCAD, so it’s no wonder that our graduates are seen as the best prepared for their profession,” said Khoi Vo, chairman of interior design at SCAD. “There can be no more important measure of our program’s success.”
