A Woman’s Guide to Money Matters Seminar

Edward Jones financial advisor Adam W. Lee will host a free educational seminar titled “A Woman’s Guide to Money Matters” at Byrd’s Cookie Bar & Grill on Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. at 6700 Waters Ave.

During the seminar, participants will learn more about:

• What one can do now to prepare for retirement;

• One’s options to pay for a child’s or grandchild’s education;

• Developing a strategy to help achieve one’s financial goals.

New City Market Gallery to celebrate opening

The artists of The Savannah Gallery will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Wednesday from 5-7 p.m., and guests are invited to stay for the celebratory champagne and chocolate reception that will follow. The gallery is located in City Market, 2nd floor, Studio 2, of the Franklin Ward South Building. The Savannah Gallery is open 11 a..m. to 5 p.m. daily, and new creations arrive each week. Home to almost a dozen local artists — all members of the Savannah Art Association — the gallery serves as working studio space, as well as a retail gallery for artists representing a wide spectrum of styles and mediums. Forklift operator course offered

Savannah Technical College is offering an eight-hour forklift operation course on the third Saturday of each month this summer. The class meets from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in the Industrial Technology Building at 5717 White Bluff Road. The one-day class will be offered on June 16, July 21 and Aug. 18.

Students will learn to operate a forklift safely and to use a barcode scanner to receive and/or ship products. A certificate of completion will be issued to confirm the student has met Occupational Safety and Health Administration requirements to operate a forklift.

Pooler Chamber of Commerce and Visitors Bureau, Inc. lunch and learn

Top Online Marketing Technologies for Business featuring Guest Speaker Jason Anderson, Area Director of the Small Business Development Center at Georgia Southern University, is the focus of a Tuesday, June 19 Lunch and Learn event presented by the Pooler Chamber of Commerce and Visitors Bureau, Inc. The event begins at 11:30AM at The Farm at Morgan Lakes clubhouse, 570 Farm Lake Drive in Pooler.

Pooler Marketplace Expo

There are still some spaces left for the Thursday, July 19 Pooler Marketplace Expo. The July 19 event is from 5-7 p.m. at the Mighty Eighth Air Force Museum, 175 Bourne Avenue, Pooler, near I-95 exit 102 and just minutes from Savannah. The event is open to the public and admission is free. Event features include door prizes, product samples, items for sale, company and product information, and more. Grant supports financial education

Consumer Credit Counseling Service of the Savannah Area, Inc., working with the West Broad Street YMCA, has received a grant from Chase Card Services, a division of JPMorgan Chase & Co., to help support “Dollars to Dough,” a program that provides financial education to Savannah residents.

The eight-week series includes a “hands on” learning approach toward creating a family spending plan, which includes maximizing income, tracking expenses, contributing to savings, setting financial goals and improving credit.

Classes at the West Broad Street YMCA, 1110 May St., are free and open to the public with the first class starting on Thursday, June 21 at 6 p.m. Registration is required, space is limited and child care is provided. For more information, call 912-233-1951.

Tourism council to meet

The Savannah Tourism Leadership Council will hold its monthly membership luncheon Thursday, June 21, at the Savannah Marriott Riverfront, 100 General McIntosh Blvd.

Networking and registration will begin at 11:30 a.m. The program will start at 11:50 a.m.

Brett Bell, the public information officer for the city of Savannah, will disuss ‘Savannah City Government 101.’ The cost is $30 for members, $40 for non-members. Reservations due by Monday, June 18 at 5 p.m.

Virginia College to celebrate anniversary

Virginia College in Savannah will celebrate its one-year anniversary with an appreciation day on Friday, June 22.

Local business owners, advisory board members, externship sponsors, community leaders and elected officials will receive certificates of appreciation

The event from 6 to 8 p.m., which will showcase career programs and the 53,000 square-foot campus, will be held at Virginia College, 14045 Abercorn St.

Virginia College has invested more than $5 million in renovations, furniture, fixtures and lab equipment for the campus building and facilities and started classes on June 29, 2011.

7th annual Savannah Uncorked coming June 22

Tickets and sponsorships are available for the seventh annual Savannah Uncorked event at the Savannah Golf Club, from 7 to 10 p.m. on Friday, June 22. This event features wine and gourmet food pairings, music by local Savannah band “The 8-Tracks” and a silent auction.

This year’s event is being held in honor of John Manly and Megan Usher Manly who were involved in a traumatic car accident the day before their wedding and received life-saving care at Memorial University Medical Center. Proceeds from Savannah Uncorked benefit Memorial’s Level 1 trauma center, critical care units, and The Rehabilitation Institute at Memorial.

Women in construction schedule networking event

The Coastal Georgia chapter of the National Association of Women in Construction will hold a speed networking event June 25 from 5:30-7 p.m. at the Exchange Tavern, 6710 Waters Avenue.

RSVPs are required by no later than June 15 and space is limited to the first 50 people to respond.

Check in will occur at 5:30, and the networking event will begin at 5:45 with dinner and chapter business to follow an hour later.

Tables will be laid out in a horseshoe shape where each person will stand up to speak for one minute about their business.

The cost is $20 for members, $25 for non-members.
