Founder of Elizabeth on 37th to take part in festival

Elizabeth Terry, who’s known as Savannah’s only James Beard award-winning chef, will take part in the Savannah Food & Wine Festival scheduled for Nov. 11-17.

Terry, who lives in Portland, Ore., will participate in two events: The Farm to Table Bethesda Wine Dinner and the Celebrity Chef Tour.

Terry opened the restaurant Elizabeth on 37th in 1981 but later sold it.

In her 20-year career, she has won numerous awards, including the James Beard award, which has been likened to a culinary academy awards.

“I miss the Georgia coast fish, as well as my friends in Savannah,” Terry said. “I look forward to cooking for them and supporters of the Bethesda Academy and James Beard Foundation.”

The first dish of the night at the Bethesda dinner will come from Terry who is scheduled to prepare a crab stuffed flounder. The farm at Bethesda Academy is growing herbs that will be used to prepare various items for the Farm to Table dinner.
